More than 200 species of mammals and bird have disapeared from the face of the earth in the last 200 years many more fight a battle against extinction.

FACT:- In 1991 Japan announced it will end all trade in sea turtle products from 1994. There are seven species of turtle, which are endangered. Japan is currently the major market for sea turtle products.

All over the world animals are fighting for their welfare and survival. In Africa the elephant is being relentlessly hunted for its ivory tusks, and the endangered Black Rhino is being hunted for its horns.

If tourists and holidaymakers did NOT buy gifts and souveniers made from ivory, rhino horn and in fact any annimal part, then as the demand decreases, so the poachers would not have to kill so many annimals. Hopefully it would stop altogether.

FACT:- Ornaments made from elephants feet are sold to tourists in Africa.

In China the Giant Panda is becoming a rarer and rarer site, as its established feeding grounds are destroyed, and also due to the destruction of its natural habitat.

In the United States, the Californian Condor can now only be seen in the zoo, as it HAS become extinct in the wild. Meanwhile in South America the destruction of unexplored rainforest could be killing of species of animals we don’t even know exist.

In Europe, some common animals that previously used to thrive in their natural habitat, such as Bats, Barn Owls, Red Squirrels and the Door Mouse are now all facing the danger of extinction? The Red squirrel is already extinct in many parts of England.
